Rev. Dr. Lloyd Barrett is a Jamaican minister, teacher, healer, and spiritual leader whose life has been guided by faith, perseverance, and service. Born in St. James, Jamaica, he was influenced early by responsibility, discipline, and the unwavering belief of his mother, who declared he would become “a minister or a doctor” despite others’ doubts. Her encouragement—and a deep love of poetry and learning—laid the foundation for his life’s calling.
He pursued higher education in the United States, arriving in Florida in 1956 on a work scholarship. During the height of racial segregation, he endured profound discrimination, including threats from the Ku Klux Klan and the painful rejection of a fraternity blood donation because of his race. These experiences strengthened his commitment to courage, dignity, and spiritual grounding.
Rev. Dr. Barrett graduated in 1961 with credentials in education and later earned a master’s degree in educational psychology from Butler University. His professional path included roles in child welfare, juvenile court services, and corporate leadership with Pabst Brewing Company, serving across multiple states and Washington, D.C.
In 1964, he married his wife, Mickey, a devoted schoolteacher who lived with sickle cell anemia and passed in 1969. Caring for her during those years profoundly deepened his compassion, patience, and spiritual insight.
Now approaching his 87th year, Rev. Dr. Barrett remains independent and actively committed to his life’s mission: to teach, to inspire, to heal as a spiritual leader, and to support others in discovering meaning and purpose.
